Working Van Fire Extinguished

Photos & Story by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

Lynbrook firefighters under the command of First Assistant Chief William Abrams responded to a Signal 8 fire call for a "reported van fire" at Merrick Road and Vincent Avenue at 1:05 PM on July 3, 2017.

Upon the arrival of Chief Abrams and Second Assistant Chief Nicholas Pearsall the call was upgraded to a general alarm as the van was fully involved and parked in the driveway next to the house at 187 Vincent Avenue.  Truck Company was first on the scene and their members joined Chief Pearsall in using water cans to contain the fire until an engine company arrived.  Engine Company quickly followed and a hose line was stretched and used to put the fire out.  Truck Company used their tools to open the hood and the rear doors and overhaul the van.

Firefighters were at the scene for about 30 minutes.  Cause of the fire was not determined however the fire was mostly in the engine compartment and into the front interior of the van.  No injuries were reported.
