Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Presented

Story & Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On June 2, 2019, Kathy Festa, representing Michelle Straub and Peggy Michaud, the other two members of the Ladies Auxiliary scholarship team, spoke to the Lynbrook Junior Fire Department members at their monthly meeting at headquarters to present the Ladies Auxiliary's annual $500 scholarship to a graduating high school student who is a member of the juniors.  This scholarship has been presented for twelve years.  Also present was Donna Cribbin, presiden of the Ladies Auxiliary.

According to Kathy Festa, "This year the scholarship is given to honor the departed members of the LFD, and the members over the last 100 years plus who have given their all to the fire service."

This year eight juniors were eligible for the award.  Those juniors were Andrew Abrams, Jordan Camillo, David Frederick, Griffin Kirby, Brandon Maroney, Sharaz Mohammed, Dan Neri, and Richard Weater.

After Kathy Festa spoke she introduced Chief Nick Pearsall and asked him to pick the scholarship winner.  All eight names were put into the chief's uniform hat.  The chief reached in and blindly chose the name of Dan Neri.  Dan, who has now turned 18 and has joined Truck Company was not available for the presentation.  Chief Pearsall then spent a few minutes talking to the Juniors.
