On Sunday, October 15, 2017, Chief Carl Lengel led the Lynbrook Fire Department, its members, Ladies Auxiliary, and junior firefighters to the Firefighters Memorial on Sunrise Highway at Earle Avenue, to hold the department's annual memorial service which remembers the six Lynbrook volunteer firefighters who died in the line of duty.  Guests who attended the service were Assemblyman Brian Curran, Nassau County Legislator Bill Gaylor III, Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony Santino, Town Councilman Anthony D'Esposito, Lynbrook Deputy Mayor Alan Beach, Trustee Anne Marie Reardon, and Police Chief Joe Neve.  Department Chaplain Pastor Robert Walderman gave the opening prayer and the benediction.  Chief Lengel led the service and spoke about the six firefighters who died in the line of duty.  Chiefs Pearsall and Brooks placed the department wreath in front of the stone marker with the names of the six.  The chiefs and department saluted the memory of our fallen brother firefighters as the memorial bell tolled.

After the service everyone went back to the Knights of Columbus Hall on Hempstead Avenue for breakfast.  The guest speaker at the breakfast was Bob Senn, a retired NYC firefighter and a Hicksville volunteer.  Senn, who is involved in The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund spoke about the fund as well as mental health issues in the fire service and the mental health program offered by the Terry Farrell Fund.
