Mutual Aid To Valley Stream

Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

On Monday, November 14, 2016, the Lynbrook Fire Department was called on a mutual aid to assist the Valley Stream Fire Department for a working house fire at 34 E. Hawthorne Street shortly after 6:30 AM.  Allegedly, the homeowners 10-year old daughter made the phone call to report the kitchen was on fire.  The child's mother doesn't speak English and the father was at work.  The mother, the 10 year old, and her brother escaped out a first-floor window.  Lynbrook's Truck Company and the Emergency Medical Company were not called to the scene but stood-by at VSFD Headquarters on Rockaway Avenue.  VS firefighters used one hose line through the back door to put out the kitchen fire in the rear of the house on the first floor.  They stopped the fire before it spread to the rest of the two-story house.   It was not known how the fire started but it was not considered suspicious.
