Mutual Aid to Valley Stream FD

Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

On November 20, 2016, Lynbrook firefighters were called on mutual aid to the Valley Stream Fire Department which was battling a Signal 10 house fire on Emerson Place in Valley Stream.   Lynbrook's ladder 427 and an Emergency Medical Company ambulance were dispatched to stand-by at VSFD Headquarters on Rockaway Avenue to cover other alarms in that community.   First Assistant Chief Carl Lengel was at the scene of the Signal 10, while Second Assistant Chief William Abrams was with the stand-by units.  Valley Stream firefighters fought an attic fire at the house on Emerson and were able to knock down the fire with one attack line but due to the large amount of debris in the attic overhaul took some time.  During the fire, Lynbrook's ladder did respond to a call at Merrick Road and Montague Street while the Medical Company responded to an aided case.
