Lynbrook Firefighters Incident Drill

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On Sunday morning, November 8, 2015, Lynbrook firefighters under the command of 2nd Assistant Chief Carl Lengel held a Mass Casualty Incident drill in the Earle Avenue parking lot using two vehicles and a bus to simulate an accident between the three vehicles.  Dummies were placed in the two cars while Lynbrook junior firefighters posed as injured children inside the bus which was recently donated to the department for training purposes by Gandpa's Bus Company in Oceanside. Truck Company and Tally-Ho Engine 3, whose rigs carry the extrication tools and equipment, responded as did the Emergency Medical Company. While the firefighters from Truck and Tally-Ho worked with the extrication equipment to cut up the cars and remove the dummies, the Emergency Medical Company stabilized the injured bus occupants and carried them on stretchers off the bus.
