On May 6, 2016, the Malverne and Lynbrook Fire Departments honored the memory of military veteran Hank Maier, the owner of Maier's Brick Cafe at Lakeview Avenue and Rollings Street who passed away earlier that week.  Hank, besides being a veteran, was also a good friend to both fire departments.  Malverne's ladder and Lynbrook's 427 set up their ladders on Rolling Street and on Lakeview Avenue and flew an American flag over the intersection outside the Brick Cafe.  The funeral procession passed under the flag as firefighters saluted this veteran who owned the Brick Cafe for just over 50 years.
