Mutual Aid to Valley Stream House Fire

Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

On April 11, 2018, at 6:30 PM, Valley Stream firefighters were called to a reported house fire at 6 Lois Place, Valley Stream, just one house in from Horton Avenue and the Lynbrook border.  Chief Carl Lengel and Second Assistant Chief Nick Pearsall were both one of the first on the scene.

When Valley Stream engine 341 arrived and stretched a line to the front door Chief Pearsall led the firefighters, made up of 341 and 342 members, to the basement where the fire was raging.  It was quickly determined that the fire had extended to the first floor.  While a second line was brought up, Chief Lengel went in with that line. Lynbrook Truck Company and Medical Company was called on a mutual aid and responded to the scene.

First Assistant Chief Bill Abrams also responded.  Truck members did some overhauling and worked on the first floor back wall as fire climbed up the back wall from the basement.  The back brick wall, which was endanger of collapse was pulled down. The cause of the fire is unknown.
