Teamwork at Working Car Fire

Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

Lynbrook firefighters, under the command of Chief John Chavatte, along with neighboring Rockville Centre firefighters teamed up to extinguish a working car fire on Merrick Road just east of Ocean Avenue on the evening of June 26, 2016.  A male driving a Jeep and heading west on Merrick Road and approaching the Lynbrook line escaped from his burning vehicle leaving it in the roadway after the engine caught on fire.  After the chiefs arrived on the scene and a working fire was broadcast, Truck Company was the first to arrival and almost put the fire out with two water can before RVCFD arrived and extinguished the fire with a hose line.  Traffic was stopped westbound on Merrick Road for about 40 minutes.
