Mutual Aid to RVC

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On the afternoon of Saturday, October 1, 2016, the Lynbrook Fire Department was called on a mutual aid by the Rockville Centre Fire Department to assist at a Signal 10 at 145 Maple Avenue, a three-story apartment house.   Chief John Chavatte and First Assistant Chief Carl Lengel responded to the scene and assisted at the Command Post.  Our Emergency Medical Company also responded to the scene while Truck Company stood-by at RVCFD headquarters.  Oceanside, East Rockaway, and Lakeview were also called on mutual aid.  The fire was contained with one hose line by RVC firefighters to an apartment on the third floor.  A cigarette in a couch was believed to be the cause of the fire but the fire was investigated by the Nassau County Fire Marshal.
