Salon Fire

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On Saturday, July 19, 2015, Lynbrook firefighters made a quick stop to a fire spreading up the wall of LaBelle Unisex Salon at 99 Broadway.  Firefighters were called to the scene at 11:30 AM.  When Third Assistant Chief William Abrams arrived on the scene there was heavy smoke inside the storefront and flames were visible.  Engine Company from nearby Carpenter Avenue was first on the scene and dropped a hose line to the front door.  Truck Company also arrived.  After first forcing the front door open, the fire, now climbing up the wall and along the ceiling of the one-story storefront, was quickly extinguished.  Truck Company members then pulled the wall and ceiling to make sure the fire was out.  The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office was called to investigate the cause of the fire but it could have been caused by a heater used to dry nails.  It is not considered suspicious.  There were no injuries and firefighters were at the for about an hour.
