From the Archives - Lynbrook's First Paramedics

January, 1974 - Photo by John Cribbin

Below is an historical news clipping from the Lynbrook Helm weekly newspaper dated January 23, 1974.  The photo was taken by John Cribbin.  The photo caption says that, from left to right, Rescue Squad First Lieutenant Fred VanHouten, Rescue Squad Second Lieutenant Ricky Miller, as well as firefighters Thomas Smith, Gary Pazmann, and Andrew Keller, were presented with their certification diplomas as Paramedics by Lynbrook Chief Pat Ricioppo, right.  According to the photo, "These five volunteers are among only 218 in the county certified as paramedics."  The firefighters completed the Cardiac Care course given by the Nassau County Fire Service Academy. Sadly, all but Gary Pazmann have since passed away.
