Remembering Our Fallen 2019

Story by Ex-Captain/Hon Chief Steve Grogan; Photos by Brian Grogan

On Sunday morning October 20, 2019, members of the Lynbrook Fire Department, its Ladies Auxiliary and Junior firefighters, assembled, as they do each year, at the Firefighters Memorial on Sunrise Highway and Earle Avenue, to remember six Lynbrook volunteers who died in the line of duty for this community between 1932 and 1963.  The service was led by Chief of Department Nick Pearsall, and the Lynbrook mayor, village trustees, and county and town officials were in attendance.  Mayor Alan Beach spoke during the service.  After the service, which included laying a wreath at the stone marker which lists the name of those six volunteers, the firefighters then marched to Truck Company's firehouse on Earle Avenue for breakfast.  The guest speaker at the breakfast was retired FDNY Rescue 1 and Freeport firefighter Paul Hashagen.
