House Fire on Lakeview Ave.

Story & Photos by Ex-Captain/Hon. Chief Steve Grogan

Lynbrook firefighters fought a number of stubborn fires in a house at 70 Lakeview Avenue on Sunday night, July 10, 2020, after they responded under the command of Chief Michael Brooks to a reported electrical fire in the basement of the home shortly after 10:30 PM.

Engine Company 1 was first on the scene, after the chiefs, and took the hydrant at the corner of Lakeview and Vincent Avenues and immediately stretched hose lines up the driveway to the side of the home.  With the fire burning in the basement Chief Brooks announced a Signal 10 for a working fire which automatically brought assistance from neighboring fire departments.  Firefighters after making their way down into the basement to fight the fire found as soon as they put out one pocket of fire another section of the basement began to burn.  Additional hose lines were stretched to the first floor. The electrical system in the house was still charged with fire breaking out in numerous places along the electrical wiring in the basement as well as in the upstairs living room and also on the second floor.  It was not until PSEG workers arrived on the scene some 30 minutes later and disconnected the home's power line from the pole at the curb that the fires stopped breaking out.

Firefighters were at the scene for over 90 minutes.  There were no injuries.
