Car Fire at Merrick Rd. & Ocean Ave., 1/12/08

Story by Ex-Capt. Steve Grogan & Photos by Firefighter Brian Grogan

On Saturday morning, January 12, 2008, the Lynbrook Fire Department under the command of Chief Robert Occhipinti responded to a reported car fire just beyond the intersection of Merrick Road and Ocean Avenue, just across the line in Rockville Centre.  Units 426-1, and 426-2, the Extrication Team, responded first with Chief Occhipinti from a previous auto accident at Sunrise Highway and Vincent Avenue.   Upon arrival Chief Occhipinti broadcast a working car fire.

Members of the Extrication team then tried to contain the fire with hand held extinguishes on the truck until the “still” fire companies, Engine Company 421, and Tally-Ho Engine 423, responded, along with Truck Company’s 428, to the scene.  Upon the arrival of 421, a single booster line was used to extinguish the rest of the fire.
