Car into a Building
Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

On Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 1:20 PM, the Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to a reported "car into a building," at 528 Merrick Road, near Crab Avenue.  The department, under the command of Chief Kevin Bien, responded with the Extrication Team on Unit 4242, and ambulance 425 from the Emergency Medical Company.  Upon arrival at the scene firefighters found that an elderly senior citizen driving east on Merrick Road had jumped the curb, glanced off a nearby tree, and plowed into the front window of Vincent's Italian American Deli.  The woman was helped from her vehicle by people from the deli.  She was moved to the Barber Shop next door where medical personnel treated her.  She was transported by Unit 425 to the hospital.  Firefighters secured the vehicle and removed the remaining glass left in the window.
