LFD Assists VSFD at IHOP

Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

Lynbrook firefighters were called out last Saturday morning, January 8, 2011, at about 6:30 AM, to assist the Valley Stream Fire Department with a Signal 10 which was engulfing the IHOP Restaurant on Sunrise Highway at Woodlawn Avenue and two blocks from the Lynbrook border.  Lynbrook's Ladder 427, under the command of Second Deputy Chief Anthony DeCarlo, and Captain PJ Curran, joined firefighters from Malverne, Hewlett, Elmont and Woodmere which also responded to the scene to assist.  Valley Stream, which has two ladders, set up one on the west side of the burning building in the IHOP parking lot.  The second ladder was on Woodlawn Avenue as was Malverne's rig.  427 was on the north side of the building on Sunrise Highway.  Firefighters were at the scene for about three hours.  This is the third working fire at that location since the late 1970's.
