Memorial Service for Line of Duty Deaths

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On Sunday morning, October 14, 2007, the volunteers of the Lynbrook Fire Department, along with the mayor, village trustees, and other elected state and town officials, came together at the Firefighter's Memorial on Sunrise Highway and Earle Avenue for the Department's Annual Memorial Service to remember those six Lynbrook volunteers that have died in the line of duty protecting the residents of Lynbrook.

After the memorial service, the volunteers and dignitaries attended the annual breakfast at the Knights of Columbus on Hempstead Avenue.

Everlyn P. Banks, the Command Master Chief at the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, was the guest speaker.  In the above photo, Master Chief Banks, stands with, from left to right, Lynbrook Fire Chief Robert Occhipiniti, First Assistant Chief John O'Reilly, Second Assistant Chief Kevin Bien, and Third Assistant Chief Raymond Burke.
