5 Star Collison Building Fire

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On February 5, 2008, at about 7:15 PM, the Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of Chief Robert Occhipinti, responded to a fire at Five Star Collision on Earle Avenue just off Sunrise Highway.   The first arriving units found a heavy smoke condition coming from the roof of the building which still had employees working at the time.

A fire was found in the ceiling air ducts of the paint room which exhausts out of the roof.   Vulcan Company took the hydrant on the corner and stretched an attack line and a backup line to the side garage door area.  Truck Company, located on the same block, was first in and set up its ladder to the roof area.  All the other fire companies stood-by.  The fire was extinguished in a matter of minutes with Vulcan wetting down the exhaust ducts.  The fire department took up shortly after 8:15 PM.  There were no injuries.
