Mutual Aid to RVC

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

Lynbrook firefighters were called on a mutual aid to the Rockville Centre Fire Department at 0954 hours on February 12, 2015 for a Signal 10 house fire at 192 South Long Beach Road near Lincoln Avenue.  RVC requested our Fast Team and ambulance to the scene.  Truck Company and the Emergency Medical Company responded as did Third Assistant Chief Carl Lengel.  Other mutual aid departments called to the scene included East Rockaway, Lakeview, and Oceanside.  Malverne stood-by at RVC fire headquarters.

The intense and fast moving fire allegedly started in the basement and spread to both floors above.  At one time firefighters climbed out the window of a back room just as the fire engulfed the room.  Shortly after that RVC's Chief Thorp ordered all sirens to be sounded for everyone to leave the building.  One RVC firefighter was burned and transported to the Nassau County Firefighters Burn Center at NUMC.  Lynbrook was at the scene for about two hours.
