Earle Ave. Car Fire

Story by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan - Photos by Firefighter Brain Grogan

During a snow storm on the morning of February 22, 2008, at approximately 9:30 AM, the Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to a reported car fire on Earle Avenue near Howard Place.  An East Rockaway fire chief was nearby and notified Firecom that there was a working car fire at that location, and the vehicle was parked next to a garage.  The fire call was upgraded to a general alarm response.

Truck Company, only a few blocks away, was first to respond followed by Vulcan Company who stretched an attack line while Truck members used a water can in an attempt to knock down the fire.  After Vulcan stretched the hose line they were unable to get their engine into pump.  They then took their line and hooked up to Engine Company which had taken the hydrant on the corner.  The fire was then quickly extinguished.  There were no injuries and the fire was contained to the vehicle.
