Two Injured as Car Climbs Embankment

Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

On Monday evening, March 14, 2011, at approximately 8:45 PM, Lynbrook's volunteers responded to a reported car into a building at the intersection of Hempstead Avenue and Merrick Road.  The department, under the command of Chief Raymond Burke responded with the Extrication Team and the Emergency Medical Company.   At the scene firefighters found that a vehicle with a driver and passenger hit the retaining wall along Hempstead Avenue of the Pestilli Office Building and then climbed up a raised landscaping embankment ending up near the outside drive through teller window.  Medical Company personnel were able to remove the driver to a stretcher but the Extrication Team had to use the cutting tool to remove the passenger's door to safely remove the passenger.  Both occupants were transported to the hospital in a Medical Company ambulance.
