Mutual Aid to East Rockaway

Story and photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 2014, at about 2:15 PM, the Lynbrook Fire Department was called out to assist the East Rockaway Fire Department for a working fire at the CVS store on Atlantic Avenue and Denton in East Rockaway.  Truck Company 427 and Tally-Ho 423, with additional manpower from Vulcan 422, responded on the mutual aid call.   When Lynbrook arrived on the scene East Rockaway firefighters had already knocked down the fire in the outside large trash compactor next to the building.  At one time the fire had climbed up the walls of the structure.  Besides Lynbrook, Rockville Centre and Oceanside also provided mutual aid.  Members of Truck Company went into the building and determined that the fire had not extended inside.  Both the Tally-Ho and Vulcan Company members stood-by.
