On the morning of May 27, 2010, the Lynbrook Fire Department's Emergency Medical Company and the Department's Extrication Team responded to a reported auto accident at the intersection of Merrick Road and Blake Avenue.  The Department was under the command of Deputy Chief Anthony DeCarlo.  Allegedly, according to witnesses, one vehicle came out of Blake Avenue against the trafffic light and was struck by a vehicle going westbound on Merrick Road.  The driver of the westbound vehicle was seriously hurt when he struck his head on the windshield when the air bags failed to deploy.  The driver was found bleeding profusely when firefighter's arrived on the scene.  Medical Company personal immediately stopped the flow of blood, stabilized him, and transported him to the hospital.
