Mutual Aid to Lakeview

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

At about 3:30 AM on the morning of Saturday, June 6, 2015, Lynbrook's Truck Company responded as a Fast Team on a mutual aid call from the Lakeview Fire Department. Lakeview had been called out for a report of heavy smoke on Woodfield Road just blocks from their firehouse.  Lakeview firefighters discovered a fire in a storefront at 1021 Woodfield Road.  There is a  row of five storefronts at that location. The store on fire was being used as a church and located at the southern end of the building.  According to the Lakeview FD the fire was believed caused by faulty wiring in a sound speaker with the fire spreading up one of the walls before it was extinguished with just one line. Truck Company members arrived on scene and stood-by and did not go to work.  Lakeview also called Rockville Centre, Malverne, and East Rockaway who also stood-by.   First Assistant Chief John Chavatte commanded Lynbrook's response at the scene. All were released in about an hour.
