Car Goes Up in Flames
Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

On Saturday afternoon, July 25, 2009, a family from Brooklyn drove out to Lynbrook to visit their relatives who live on Burtis Street.  During that drive the family’s dog was restless and barked continually.  The family could not calm the dog down and could not figure out why the dog was behaving the way he was.  Just as the family arrived and parked in front of their relative’s home the car went up in flames.   The family quickly exited the vehicle.  None one was hurt.  The engine compartment was quickly consumed in flames.  The Lynbrook Fire Department responded to the scene and put the fire out.  The car was totaled.  It is the opinion of some at the scene that the dog most likely smelled the fire long before it became visible.
