Car Takes a Swim

Story by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan; Photos by Firefighter Brian Grogan

On Saturday, July 3, 2010, at about 5:30 PM, the Lynbrook Fire Department was called out for a reported car into a pool on Davison Avenue.  The first arriving firefighter and police officer on the scene found a brand new Honda Accord sitting in the demolished and now emptied four feet above-ground pool in the backyard of the house on Davison Avenue.  They also found an 82 year old male still behind the wheel of the vehicle.  The firefighter and police officer helped the man out of his car.  Allegedly, the driver, who lives in a house on Central Avenue directly behind the Davison Avenue home, first did damage to his neighbor's house across the street from his own before driving up his driveway, through his own garage, then through the backyard fence and shrubs, and into the rear neighbor's pool.  Although the driver was not injured the Emergency Medical Company responded to the scene and transported the driver to the hospital for observation.  The department's Extrication Team was given a Signal 13.
