Lynbrook FD Mutual Aid to RVC- Frees Trapped Driver

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

At just after 5 PM on Saturday, July 5, 2008, the Lynbrook Fire Department was called out for a reported auto accident at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Ocean Avenue.  Chief John O’Reilly and Second Deputy Ray Burke, as well as the Extrication Team in Unit 426-2, responded immediately.  Upon arrival it was determined that a single car accident had occurred east of the intersection and in front of the Rockville Centre DPW.

Members of Lynbrook’s Extrication Team immediately went to work with cutters and removed the driver’s door so that medical personnel could provide first aid to the single occupant of the vehicle which had struck a tree.  By then RVCFD also responded to the scene with their rescue and an ambulance as did a Nassau County Police ambulance.  RVCFD’s ambulance transported the injured driver to South Nassau Community Hospital.  Lynbrook was at the scene for about 45 minutes.
