Garbage Burns on Tractor Trailer

Story by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan - Photos by Anthony LaBarca Jr .

The Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to a reported tractor trailer fire at Peninsula Blvd. and Scranton Avenue on the morning of August 11, 2010 at 7:24 AM.  Hose, Vulcan, and Truck Companies responded to the scene under the command of Second Deputy Chief Anthony DeCarlo.  Upon arrival, firefighters found the trailer, which contained garbage, burning, with flames shouting into the air.  To contain the fire multiple hose lines were used.  On one side of the trailer the fire had burned a hole in the side and firefighters were able to put water into it.  Truck Company cut a second hole on the other side and a second line was put into that side.  Truck Company also put up its bucket and poured water in from the top.  Firefighers were at the scene for over an hour before the fire was put out and the trailer was driven back to Omni Recycling in Inwood.
