Fire At Abandoned Building

Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

On Sunday afternoon at about 4:45 PM on August 11, 2013, the Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of First Assistant Chief Michael Anderson, was dispatched to a report building fire at the closed and boarded-up Mangrove Feather Factory building on Broadway at Langdon Place.  A passerby had reportedly seen smoke coming from an area behind the building.  Engine Company was first on the scene and reported a rubbish fire against the back wall of the building under the fire escape.  The fire was quickly extinguished with one line.  The cause of the fire was suspicious and Chief Anderson requested an investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal.
