Car Plows Into House

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On September 10, 2008, the Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of Chief John O'Reilly, responded to a reported "Car into a house," with a forthwith response, at the intersection of Peninsula Blvd and Lyon Place.  The Department's Extrication Team and the Emergency Medical Company was dispatched to the scene.  Additionally, Engine Company 1 was also requested to the scene by Chief O'Reilly upon his arrival.  The Extrication Team using the spreaders and cutters removed both doors on the driver's side and the "B" post to remove the driver from the vehicle which was nearly half-way into the house.  The Department was assisted by Nassau County Police Ambulance Bureau members who were also on the scene and stabilized the driver while Lynbrook members extricated the driver.    Extrication members, along with employees of the Lynbrook Building Department, inspected the house, and determined that no structural damage was done.  Nassau County transported the driver to the hospital.  According to the Lynbrook police the driver was arrested on DWI charges.
