9/11 Memorial Ceremony - 2008

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On September 11, 2008, at 6 PM, the volunteers of the Lynbrook Fire Department, led by Fire Chief John O'Reilly, along with members of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Lynbrook Junior Fire Department, participated in the Village of Lynbrook's  9/11 Memorial Ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial Garden outside of Village Hall.  The Garden contains 20 stones, one each for the nineteen residents and family members who perished at the World Trade Center, as well as a police dog killed that day and who lived in Lynbrook under the care of a Port Authority Police Sergeant.

During the ceremony, Chief O'Reilly led those gathered in the Pledge of Allegiance while the Department Color Guard  carried the American flags.  Additionally, the Juniors distributed flowers to the surviving family members who then placed the flowers on their loved one's stone.
