Truck Co.'s '47 Tiller Truck in Museum

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

Truck Company's 1947 Seagrave tiller ladder which saw service in Lynbrook from 1947 to 1962 is now in the Nassau County Firefighters Museum in Mitchell Field.  It is parked next to a engine dedicated to the 343 NYFD firefighters killed on 9-11 and near the Nassau County 9-11 Museum memorial.  According to Ex-Chief Kevin Bien, Truck Company was contacted around 1993 from the Windsor, Nova Scotia FD, and asked if they wished to buy-back their old tiller.  They did for $3000.  The truck was driven back to Lynbrook by locking the rear wheels and driving it like a tractor-trailer.  At one point they had to travel by ferry to get it to the mainland.  The truck is owned by 10 members of the company.
