Sunrise Highway Overturn

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On Monday, September 15, 2008, at approximately 12:30 PM the Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to a reported overturn at Sunrise Highway and Rocklyn Avenue.  The Department's Extrication Team and the Emergency Medical Company were immediately dispatched to the scene.  Third Assistant Chief Mike Hynes also responded.  When the Extrication Team arrived on the scene they found an overturned SUV and the driver laying on the grass.  It was reported by MTA police officers, who were following the SUV westbound on Sunrise Highway just before it collided with the other vehicle at the intersection, that the SUV rolled over four or five times before ending on its roof.  The driver then crawled out his window and laid on the grass waiting for assistance.  The driver was stabilized by members of the Emergency Medical Company and transported to the hospital.  The other driver had little damage to her car and she was not injured.
