Mutual Aid to ERFD Signal 10 Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan
On Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, 2015, the Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of First Assistant Chief James McDermott, was called on a mutual aid to assist the East Rockaway Fire Department at a Signal 10 house fire at 48 Grant Avenue in East Rockaway. Lynbrook's Truck Company and the Emergency Medical Company responded to the scene to assist. Second Assistant Chief John Chavatte also responded. East Rockaway responded to a fire at that location at about 12:17 PM. It appeared that a fire in the fireplace had extended into the side wall of the home. Firefighters removed the wall to get at the fire. Oceanside and Lakeview Fire Departments were also at the scene. Lynbrook firefighters were there for over an hour.
