Firefighters Free Trapped Police Officer

Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

A Lynbrook police officer trapped in his police vehicle after an auto accident on Monday morning had to be cut out of the wrecked vehicle by Lynbrook firefighters.

At about 8 AM Monday, the police officer was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Merrick Road in front of North Middle School. The Lynbrook Fire Department's Emergency Medical Company, the Extrication Team, and Tally-Ho Engine 3, all responded to the scene under the command of First Assistant Chief Anthony DeCarlo. Firefighters had to cut off both driver and rear doors to remove the injured officer and get him on a stretcher. The driver of the other car was also injured and also placed on a stretcher. Both were transported to the hospital by the Emergency Medical Company. Neither were injured seriously. Merrick Road was closed for over an hour.
