Story by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan; Photos by Perfect Photo

At the October 3, 2011, Lynbrook Village Board meeting, the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce presented a $1500 check to the Lynbrook Fire Department for the Nassau County Firefighters-Operation Wounded Warrior program. The chamber raised the money at their last chamber car show in September. Ex-Chief Kevin Bien, chairman of Lynbrook's End of Summer Block Party and Salute to our Heroes, which raised over $10,000 for Operation Wounded Warrior accepted the additional check from William Gaylor, president of the Chamber. Also, this writer asked that Lynbrook school children write Christmas and holiday cards and letters to our wounded soldiers and Lynbrook firefighters will distribute them personally to the soldiers on December 9th. On that day, Lynbrook firefighters will travel with other Nassau County firefighters to Walter Reed/Bethesda Hospital to distribute Chrismas gifts purchased with monies raised at Lynbrook's fundraiser and other fundraisers held by other Nassau departments over the past year. The cards will be given with the gifts. School children were asked to put their name, grade and school on the card or letter. They can be dropped off at Lynbrook Village Hall during normal business hours or at fire headquaters on Wright Avenue on Sunday mornings. The deadline to drop the cards off is December 1st.
