LFD in Halloween Havoc

Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

On Saturday, October 31, 2009, the Village of Lynbrook held Halloween Havoc on a closed Atlantic Avenue in the downtown shopping area between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road.

The Lynbrook Fire Department participated in the program.   The walkway from the Forest Avenue parking lot to Atlantic Avenue was decorated by Medical Company’s Lynn Curtis, and members of our Junior Fire Department dressed in costumes to scare the children that walked through the walkway to the street.

The walkway was made even scarier by the use of the department’s smoke machine.  Additionally, the Floodlight Unit was on scene and Floodlight Captain Jim Hillgardner helped Fire Prevention Director Mike Kenny hand out plastic fire helmets and Frisbees to the children on the street.  Earlier, Hose Company led the Halloween parade of the children.
