Fire Call at Historic Movie Theater

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On Friday evening, June 15, 2007, at approximately 9:30 PM, the Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of Fire Chief Robert Occhipinti, responded to the Lynbrook Movie Threate at Five Corners for a reported fire.  Chief Occhipinti learned upon his arrival that the popcorn machine at the candy counter in the lobby area had caught on fire.

Lynbrook Engine Company 1 was the first engine on the scene and took the hydrant at Atlantic and Merrick.  They stretched an attack line across the street to the front door but it was not needed as the fire had been extinguished by the Halon extinguisher.  Truck Company also arrived and assisted by bringing in a ladder to open the ceiling and inspect above the popcorn machine to make sure the fire had not spread into the ceiling above.

All the fire units stood-by.  The patrons of the threatre who had been evacuated when the fire occurred were allowed back into the threate just after 10 PM.
