Lynbrook FD Receives Elks Club Award

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On Sunday morning, October 12, 2008, the volunteers of the Lynbrook Fire Department, along with the Lynbrook Junior Fire Department, all under the command of Fire Chief John O'Reilly, assembled at the Lynbrook Firefighters Memorial for their annual memorial service.  In attendance were Fire Department Chaplains, the mayor and village trustees, and State, County and Town elected officials.  The Firefighter's Memorial, located at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Earle Avenue remember the dedication and commitment of six Lynbrook volunteers who made the supreme sacrifice to the Village of Lynbrook and it residents and died in the line of duty.  After the service the Department proceeded to the Knights of Columbus Hall on Hempstead Avenue for breakfast.  The guest speaker at the breakfast was Peter Laydon, a volunteer at the American Air Power Museum at Republic Airport.
