Lynbrook F.D. Honors It's Fallen on Memorial Day 2008

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On Memorial Day 2008, the volunteers of the Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of Chief John O’Reilly, along with the Junior Fire Department, the mayor and village officials, and state and town elected officials, gathered at the Firefighter’s Memorial to remember the four Lynbrook volunteer firefighters that were killed in World War II.  Wreaths were laid by each one of the stone markers while the Chief’s office placed a department wreath remembering those four men.

After the services the department marched in the annual Memorial Day parade through the village of Lynbrook.  After the completion of the parade down Merrick Road and through the downtown area, Chief O’Reilly joined with the members of Tally-Ho Engine Company 3, as part of the annual Veterans services at the Village of Lynbrook’s Doughboy Monument, as they laid a wreath on a stone marker remembering former Ex-Captain Jeff Wiener who was killed in Iraq in May 2005.  Floodlight, as usual, provided the sound system for the ceremonies.
