Help to Malverne F.D.

Story & photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan

On Sunday, April 29, 2013, at approximately 9:50 PM, the Malverne Fire Department was called to smoke coming from a house on Remsen Street in North Valley Stream.  Allegedly, a neighbor three doors away called in the alarm after noticing smoke coming from the home.  The homeowners were not home at the time.  Malverne firefighters led by Assistant Chief Scott Rung responded and found a fire on the second floor and a Signal 10 was announced.   The Lynbrook Fire Department, led by Chief Ed Hynes, responded with Tally-Ho Engine 3 and the Floodlight Unit for its Command Post.  Additional mutual aid came from the other Fourth Battalion departments as well as units from Valley Stream and Elmont.  The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office.  Lynbrook was at the scene for about two hours.
