On June 6, 2011, Legislature Fran Becker honored Lynbrook FD First Assistant Chief Anthony DeCarlo, of Tally-Ho Engine 3, Ex-Captain Cathy Bien, Emergency Medical Company, Ex-Captain Clayton Murphy, Vulcan Company 2, and Ex-Captain Richard Straub, also of Vulcan Company, for their efforts in saving the life of a child. The four were honored by Becker and the whole Nassau County Legislature for saving the life of a 2 and 1/2 year old who fell into a friend's backyard pool in Lynbrook on April 13, 2011. The firefighters, upon arrival at the home, found the child lifeless, cold, and not breathing. They revived the child and then all four jumped into the Chief's car and raced the child to the hospital. The child fully recovered.
