September 10th, 2011

Story & Photos by  Ex Captain Steven Grogan, Lynbrook Patch Video by Chris Boyle

On Saturday evening, September 10, 2011, the Lynbrook Fire Department, a member of Nassau County Firefighters-Operation Wounded Warrior, held a fundraiser at Truck Company's firehouse on Earle Avenue, for those wounded warriors. Three bands, Playback, South of Sunrise, and Jimmy Kenny and the Pirate Beach Band, donated their time and talents to entertain the crowd that came out to support Lynbrook's efforts for the wounded warriors. Additionally, many Lynbrook businesses donated prizes for the many raffles that were held that night. There are presently 40 of Nassau's 71 fire departments actively involved in this non-profit organization. Monies raised at Lynbrook's event and by other departments will be used to purchase Christmas and holiday gifts for the wounded warriors. In December, those gifts will be personally given by Lynbrook and Nassau County firefighters to those wounded and receiving treatment in Bethesda/Walter Reed hospital, Fort Bragg, and Camp Lejuene, NC. Anyone wishing to donate to this cause can write a check to the Lynbrook Fire Department and mail it to One Columbus Drive, Lynbrook, NY 11563. Put the words, "Operation Wounded Warrior" in the memo section of the check.
