 LFD Wounded Warrior Concert

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On September 20, 2014, the Lynbrook Fire Department, led by its Wounded Warrior Committee, sponsored its Fourth Annual Community Concert for the Troops to benefit Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior.  Two bands, Playback and the Project donated their time, as did Glor Na Gael Pipes and Drums who also entertained those in attendance.  US Marine LCPL Marcos Dandrea, his wife, Victoria, also a Marine, and two of their children drove up to Lynbrook to attend.  Lynbrook firefighters visit and bring presents to Marcos and his family each December when they travel with NCFF-OWW to Bethesda.  This is the third year that Marcos and his family has travelled to Lynbrook from Bethesda to attend the concert.  During the evening Marcos presented Lynbrook's OWW Chairman, Ex-Chief Kevin Bien, for the department, a painting drawn by Victoria.  Due to the generosity of so many people the committee raffled off over 100 prizes during the evening.  The department's benefit Softball Doubleheader between the firefighters and the Lynbrook Baptist Church and between the firefighters and the Lynbrook police, was rained out twice in the past few weeks.  It most likely will be played on Sunday afternoon, October 19th.
