On October 18, 2006, the Elks Club of Lynbrook held their annual Firefighter's Award night.  They recognized volunteer firefighters from the surrounding area. 

 The Lynbrook Fire Department received an award for their quick response by firefighters and treatment rendered by emergency medical technicians of the multiple injured at two different collapses that occurred on September 6, 2006. 

The day began with the collapse of a three story scaffolding outside the Sunrise Executive Hotel that sent five laborers to the ground.   Two hours later a Keyspan Gas employee was seriously injured when be was pinned between a section of roadway that had collapsed into the excavation he was working in, pinning him between a newly installed 20 inch gas main and a large section of roadway.
