On Wednesday Feb 21, 2018 at approximately 1:46pm the Lynbrook Fire Department was toned out for a general alarm for a house fire on Vine Street. Chief of Department Carl Lengel found smoke coming from the back side of an interior closet coming through the garage, then made entry into the front door of the house. Upon entry, Lengel found fire in the living room then conducted a quick search to find the house empty. Tally-Ho arrived and stretched two lines, the first attacking the fire, while the second protected the stairway to the second floor.

After some time, it was determined that the fire originated in the basement, and lines were adjusted to combat the new found conditions. Further searches confirmed that there were no occupants in the home.A Truck from Valley Stream operated as a FAST team, and an Engine from Malverne and a Truck from Rockville Centre responded to the scene. An Engine from Rockville Centre and a Truck from East Rockaway were stand-by units.

After further investigation, it was determined that the fire originated from an extension cord that was located in a basement closet and had extended to the first floor of the house.
