Apartment House Fire on Scranton Avenue - June 26th, 2004

By Shannan Murphy, LFD Press Liasion

On the morning of June 26th, the Lynbrook Fire Department responded to an office/residential building at 483 Scranton Avenue for “smoke in the building.” Engine Co. #1 with assistance from Vulcan Co. #2 stretched the initial attack line, knocking down the fire. Truck Co. initiated searches of the area containing the fire and searched the floors above the fire. Chief Pearsall requested a mutual aid from the East Rockaway Fire Department for a ladder company to assist in the search and removal of the building’s occupants.

According to Chief Pearsall, the fire was quickly knocked down with out injury to any of the building’s occupants or to fire department personnel. The Nassau County Fire Marshall and the Haz-Mat Unit were called to investigate.

Hose Co. #1, Tally-Ho Engine #3 and Medical Co. assisted at the scene and were available to respond to any additional alarms in Lynbrook.
All residents were allowed back into their apartments later that morning.
