LFD Responds to Motorcycle Accident

Story and Photos by Ex-Captain Steve Grogan

On Friday, June 30, 2006, the Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched at 4:16 PM to a reported accident between an auto and a motorcycle at the intersection of Merrick Road and Earle Avenue.  Two people riding the motorcycle were reported to be down in the middle of the intersection.  A forthwith response was requested.  Lynbrook's Emergency Medical Company (EMC), Unit 425, at the time, was being dispatched to another aided case when the accident occurred.  Fire Chief Keith Festa ordered 425 to respond to the accident scene instead.  EMC's second ambulance, Unit 425A, was on another aided case.  The East Rockaway FD was called on a mutual aid to cover the aided case that 425 was originally responding to.

The Department's Extrication Team, 426-2, also responded to the accident from nearby Denton Avenue.  While Firemedics stabilized both of the injured from the motorcycle, the Extrication Team mobbed up the oil and gas in the roadway.  Both of the injured were placed on stretchers and transported to the hospital by 425.  The driver of the car was not injured.
