Lynbrook FD Makes Quick Work of a Taxpayer Fire at 5 Corners

By Shannan Murphy, LFD Press Liaison

(July 26, 2005)  The Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke coming from an vacant storefront located at 321 Merrick Road, adjacent to the Lynbrook Movie Theater just after 7pm.  The first engine to arrive on scene, Vulcan Chemical and Hose Co. #2 connected to a hydrant and entered the building to search for a fire source.   Within minutes, the entire Department was on scene investigating the source of the heavy smoke condition.  A signal "10" or working building fire was transmitted by orders of 3rd Assistant Chief John O'Reilly who was in charge at the scene.  "The quick response by the members allowed for a fast stop of the fire, located in the front of the store.  The quick actions of those working in the building prevented the fire from spreading."

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office.
